El Campello. A treasure still to be found
/01The harbour
El Campello is a fishing village and still behaves like one. At the fish market beside the harbour, Monday to Friday, whatever came in that morning goes to auction — and it is the only one in Spain where anyone can sit down, watch the bidding and buy the fish from the person who caught it.
/02The tower
A sixteenth-century tower still stands above the village, built to warn of pirates arriving. Four hundred years on, it goes on watching the horizon and reminding everyone that here the legends do not belong only to the past.
/03The table
The food of El Campello comes from the sea and from tradition: fresh fish, rice dishes and straightforward recipes that let the local produce speak. An honest kitchen, tied to the harbour and meant to be enjoyed without hurrying.
